WHAT WE DO
Storyland is committed to advancing literacy, community engagement, and cultural representation among children and their families in the Bronx. It truly values being inclusive, as every child deserves to come into inspiring, supportive settings that reflect identity and heritage.
Storyland’s mission as the Bronx’s first interactive children’s book lounge is to provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where children and families can connect while exploring literature and inspiring a lifelong love of reading.
Finally, Storyland’s vision is to empower children and families to build a legacy of literacy and curiosity, fostering a love for learning “one dope book at a time.”

mentorship by
older students
Establish a mentoring program pairing 25 mentor-mentee pairs through the school trip initiative. Additionally, hire and train 6–8 interns per year to assist with program implementation and outreach. We will provide stipends and professional development workshops for interns.
Partnerships include local schools and youth organizations to recruit mentors and interns. Design a training curriculum to support their success to develop leadership, communication, and facilitation skills among Bronx youth while creating a meaningful support network for children.
Reading Circles & Community Programs
Host community-driven programs, including reading circles, book clubs, poetry & spoken word, illustration, book writing workshops, mindfulness-movement-self-development workshops, parenting workshops, and educator meetups, to deepen connections among residents.
Conduct community events annually, ensuring recurring groups regularly utilize the space.
Book & Reserve Fridays for free enrichment programs organized by community members. All programs must align with Storyland’s mission and vision.
